So we all know the internet can be a great source of information, but even searching for that information has hidden dangers according to this CNN article. Besides categorizing those most at risk, the list of search terms that may put you at risk includes "word unscrambler, lyrics, myspace, free music downloads, phelps, game cheats, printable fill-in puzzles, free ringtones and solitaire". The article indicates that those who may download files as a result of these searches have a significantly increased risk of acquiring malware on their computers. Be careful out there!

Frontline - The Tankman - The Struggle to Control Information
Bet you didn't know Yahoo, Cisco, Google, and Microsoft are responsible for helping the Chinese government censor what their citizens are able to access on the internet...This is an amazing program (first about the events of May 1989 in Tienamen Square) , but more importantly the involvement of U.S. firms in media censorsip in China. Cisco is the biggest player. It's sickening!

Should U.S. companies be allowed to profit from enabling in other countries what would be illegal in the U.S.?

How Stuff Works - Wi-Fi Security
I was reading an RSS feed on how internet censorship works when I clicked on a video about Wi-Fi Security (or the lack thereof). After watching this clip, I will be very wary of where I use wi-fi access. I guess the question becomes how do we make sure we're always working in an encrypted environment? Is there "safe" wi-fi? Here's the link to the video:

Reader & Epicurious RSS feed
On the light side...Peach Laquered Chicken Wings...summer's here and the grill is on! RSS feed shows up as a series of recipe headings w photos. Easy to scroll through. Great master site. Not celebrity driven like Food Network.

CNN - PAYGO Spending
What a concept? Can't spend more than you either have or can save by cutting spending somewhere else. Maybe AIG, Lehman Brothers, GM, Chrysler should have been managing their businesses the way the rest of the grunts have to! CNN RSS feed about Obama pushing for this seem a bit after the fact. One trillion spent and no PAYGO legislation in place.

Healthcare Reform
As the healthcare reform debate goes on (government plan and private plans? single payer plan? private plans?) and the bi-partisan rhetoric increases to fever pitch, who's watching the "back door" i.e. what the insurance companies are doing to undermine any reform?
I've written to my government reps and received form letters in return telling me how wonderful they are when it comes to pushing for reform. Being the cynic I am about this, I can't help but wonder which insurance companies contributed to their most recent campaigns.
Great op-ed piece :

Reader & Frontline
I think Frontline is one of the best documentary shows on any of the networks. The range of topics covered is always timely. I like having Reader basically list and give a brief synopsis of each of the last 20-30 shows and I can just click on the link to see it. There are many I haven't seen and just having them available to scroll through is preferable to me. Of course, I can always search the website for a specific topic, but this is a great way to see the recent programs.
